About the literary society:

Amanda & Julia have always talked about starting up their own literary society with their book-loving friends. It wasn't until they watched the famous, Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society that they had formed an idea of what their society would actually look like. They gathered their friends (and brothers) and built a literature-adoring society that meets twice a month to discuss everything from books to music to movies and everything in between. They came across the name as a group while most of the literary members were reading Little Women. As a collective favorite novel, they all agreed to pay homage to this lovely piece of literature (and the original Dicken's novel) by naming it after the March girl's newspaper.

What makes the Pickwick Literary Society unique?

Unlike a book club, this society does not select a monthly read but instead encourages members to choose a novel they would be interested in themselves. Each member reads their selected novel/book at their own pace and comes to each meeting with a perspective on a book that perhaps no other member might be reading at that time. This allows for great depth of conversation and sometimes we spark some friendly arguments.

The goal of this literary society is to create a love of learning, a love of reading, a love of classics, and above all, a love of literature in general. We love talking about our favorite books and sometimes our not-so-favorite. We also encourage any background of reader, whether they read young adult fiction, Hallmark holiday stories, biographies, histories, you name it. This allows each member to become inspired by other genres and often times encourages readers to step outside their comfort zones to discover something new.

When does the Society meet?

We meet every 1st and 3rd Saturday of every month, unless some unforeseen circumstances do not permit a meeting. In that case, cancelation notices will be sent out the week before.

We highly encourage you to have tea and snacks ready to make your experience complete. When our Tea Room officially opens, we will be hosting our society meetings at our location!

How can I be a part of the Society?

It's easy! All you have to do is sign up using the form below. If you are local, you are welcome to join us in person! If you are not local, you will receive a Zoom link the Friday before each meeting. Each meeting is password protected to keep our members safe. Please let us know if you would like to join via Zoom or in person.

This Society is open to every book lover but there are a limited number of spots so make sure you sign up soon to reserve your place. As a member, you will also have first access to new books we will be selling, new projects that Julia is working on, and all the bookstore news!

To keep our member's safe and comfortable, we ask that you keep each meeting PG-rated as we have young people beginning at age 12. We tend to stay away from romance novels, horror novels, and anything involved with the occult. Thank you!
